What your subscriptions helped build this quarter

Publication growth, a new screenplay, some thoughts about AI — and finding my place between journalism and advocacy.

What a wild quarter it has been. And welcome to all of our new subscribers!

First off, I wanted to let everyone know that our cartoonist Lenore Eklund is inpatient with her daughter after a major cardiac event. Please send out prayers for healing and comfort for this amazing family. There won’t be a Where Is the Manual For This?! comic this month, as I’m sure everyone in our community can understand.

It is heavy news in what has been a heavy quarter on the national stage: the Department of Justice’s Olmstead memo, HR 1-related Medicaid changes already denying eligible people, and a new scorecard for children’s Medicaid services.

Week after week, Medical Motherhood tracks Medicaid cuts and technical denials, paid family caregiving, disability rights. We watch for local, national and international policy decisions that determine whether disabled children can receive the care they need at home, school or medical settings.

As a perk, I offer this quarterly peek behind the curtain of what I’m working on, how I think about this publication and what’s coming soon.

Paid subscriptions support the work of finding, explaining, and connecting that information — and keeping it available to every family who needs it. Right now, 56 paid subscribers help sustain this work. If you can afford $6 a month or $60 a year, will you help me reach 70?

Medical Motherhood’s quarterly behind-the-scenes report is an exclusive perk for paid subscribers, produced in February, May, August and November. Your subscription supports my work, enabling Medical Motherhood to offer news round-ups every Sunday and occasional original essays. By upgrading, you can support independent writing with no ads or hidden agendas. Paid subscriptions start at $6 per month.
